Natural essential oils are one of the worthy assets that nature has provided us. Since ancient times these are used for many reasons, but the question arises how to make essential oils? Today we encounter lots of natural products including essential oils, attars, absolute oils, carrier oils and many more. There are few different processes for extracting essential oils, and this includes steam distillation, Co2 extraction, cold-pressed.
Essential oils are concentrated oils having the essence of plants and their parts roots, shoots, flowers, leaves, seeds etc. All these are used for making of perfumes, beauty products, and in aromatherapy. Presence of aromatic compound makes them good for aromatherapy purposes, as their fragrance produces soothing impact by stimulating the limbic system of the body. The limbic system is very helpful in motivation, emotion, learning, and memory. Kshrey is known for its excellence in the manufacturing of essential oils by traditional approaches as used since the classical era.

Now let’s learn how to make essential oils by steam distillation process:-

Steam Distillation

Steam distillation is one of the most popular ways for extracting essential oils, where it works on a different set of boiling points.
  • In this process, we use a large container made of stainless steel, where raw material (Plant material) is placed
  • After this steam is added to raw material resulting in the transformation of plant’s aromatic molecules into the vapour.
  • In the further stage, the condensation process takes place. The vaporized plant compound gets cool down and back to the liquid form. Two pipes are used, one for hot water exit and another for cold water from entering.
  • Now, as a by-product, the aromatic liquid is received inside the separator, except a few essential oils such as clove the density of essential oils is very less as compared to water. Now it’s siphoned off.
